Staines is a town in the south East of England in the borough of Surrey and part of the commuter belt to London. Most of the town is on the north bank of the river Thames and as a Roman settlement has had a bridge over the river for the last two thousand years. The town of Staines played a major part in the Second World War as it was the town where the French Resistance had their base and the local town hall has a complete collection of artefacts. Staines has some interesting architecture and none more so than the Tudor building, considered one of the best examples of its kind, that one of the oldest pubs in the country.
